Supporting Proximie to Bring Intelligence into the Operating Room
March 13, 2026 • Reading time 3 minutes
Every day, thousands of surgeries are delayed or cancelled, not due to clinical complexity, but operational inefficiencies. Proximie is working to change that with its Intelligence Suite.
The Opportunity
Proximie is a fast-growing health tech company connecting operating rooms to healthcare professionals around the world. Their platform allows surgeons to virtually guide procedures in real time and facilitate surgical training through video, improving operating throughput and quality through AI-powered insights.

Proximie’s ambition was to leverage its platform – the operating system for the OR – to capture live data, generate insights, and help surgical teams work more effectively.
In collaboration with a leading US health system, Proximie identified insights that could free up 24% of operating room time, equivalent to 9,000 more procedures a year and up to $90 million in savings. For these to be realised, insights needed to be readily available and in real time.
The Solution
Proximie asked Edge Health to support the development of its Intelligence Suite to shorten time to market and deliver new features at pace. Edge Health’s team supported architecting the data infrastructure, developed the frontend dashboards (React), and integrated the Edge Health SpaceFinder predictive model to turn raw OR data into actionable insights. The Intelligence Suite uses its own ambiently collected data, connects to hospitals’ in-house systems, and creates a single analytical view across historical performance, real-time operations, and future scheduling – helping teams make and act on decisions faster, realise savings, capitalise on OR opportunity – and ultimately; treat more patients.

Insights
‘Insights’, the foundational dashboard in the Intelligence Suite, displays data gathered from the cameras in ORs in a retrospective view. Once hospitals have integrated their EHR data, they also unlock the ability to compare scheduled timings to actual timings, revealing insights captured by >25 bespoke metrics such as turnover times, cancellation rates, and OR efficiencies.
This data product enables hospitals to analyse key metrics across surgical teams and procedures, identifying what’s working and what could be improved.

Live Status
The second dashboard in the Suite is ‘Live Status’. This data product combines video-based ambient data with advanced AI analytics to give a real-time view of surgical activity, helping teams spot operational challenges and act on them as they happen. Recent developments include a model-based AI-predicted case length bar, allowing users to predict when the day will actually end and make real-time adjustments to maximise theatre utilisation while getting teams home on time.

Forecast
The third addition to the suite is the ‘Forecast’ dashboard, a tool which visualises OR schedule data up to 6 weeks in advance. Using Edge Health’s SpaceFinder model (which predicts procedure durations based on historical performance and patient complexity), users can spot underutilized slots and optimize bookings before the schedule becomes fixed.
The Impact
The Intelligence Suite is already in use across hospitals worldwide. At Guy’s and St Thomas’, an independent evaluation demonstrated that the Intelligence Suite identifies between 19% and 25% recoverable theatre time, allowing hospitals to schedule additional procedures to maximise list efficiency. Additionally, The Times highlighted how further use of Proximie’s platform can help address 135,000 on-the-day surgical cancellations & support in reducing the NHS backlog.
With the Intelligence Suite now live, Proximie is continuing to evolve how surgical data is used, turning operating rooms into intelligent systems that learn, adapt, and perform better over time. Edge Health is proud to have played a part in supporting that mission.
